Krafton acquires stake in real cricket-maker Nautilus Mobile in Rs 118 crore deal

Krafton’s Deepening India Strategy

South Korean gaming giant Krafton, the publisher behind popular games like PUBG and BGMI, has made it clear that India is one of its top global priorities. With over $200 million already invested in the Indian market, Krafton is preparing to significantly expand its presence across both esports and gaming development sectors. BGMI has seen more than 230 million downloads in India, making it one of the most played games in the country. However, the average revenue per paying user (ARPPU) is currently lower than global averages. Krafton has adjusted to this by introducing lower-value top-up options, leading to more conversions and steady monetization growth. The company remains focused on long-term profitability rather than short-term gains.

Krafton is actively working on launching a franchise-based esports league in India, modeled similarly to the IPL. The structure will include official sponsorship deals and team-based revenue models. This move aims to professionalize the BGMI esports ecosystem, giving it more structure, visibility, and financial stability. The league is expected to launch in the second half of 2025. In a strategic move, Krafton has acquired a majority stake in Nautilus Mobile, the studio behind the popular Real Cricket series. This acquisition strengthens Krafton’s portfolio in the Indian cricket gaming segment and signals its commitment to building deeper roots in the Indian gaming ecosystem. New Real Cricket titles are expected to launch under Krafton’s creative and operational direction.

Krafton is currently working with several Indian studios to co-develop new games and content. These partnerships aim to support local talent while aligning with Krafton’s global vision. The company is also investing in multiple verticals, including animation, mobile content, and in-game services, to ensure a broader media presence in India. Krafton’s approach to India is not just about publishing games but building a sustainable gaming and esports ecosystem. With major investments, a deep understanding of local behavior, and a growing focus on homegrown IP, the company is positioning India as a major hub for future game development and competitive esports.
